The Consulate General of Japan in New York is currently seeking to hire a Public Relations and Communications Associate to be assigned to the Japan Information Center, the cultural and public affairs section of the Consulate.

Responsibilities

  • Write newsletters, social media posts, emails, and other materials
  • Coordinate the activities of government scholarship programs and exchange programs for our office
  • Assist with the activities of the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program for our office
  • Contact people and organizations in an official capacity as needed for various programs including collaborating with grassroots events
  • Respond to inquiries from the general public within our jurisdiction
  • Study our organization’s objectives, promotional policies, and needs to form effective public relations strategies
  • Research and analyze Japan-related discourses and media
  • Other duties as deemed necessary

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Excellent writing, research, communication, and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of and interest in current and international affairs
  • A commitment to promoting Japan-U.S. relations
  • Knowledge of Japanese culture, economics, history, politics, and society
  • Capable of working effectively with social media
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident

Ideal Candidate

  • Has a Master’s degree in a relevant field such as Politics, International Relations, or Public Relations
  • Can manage multiple projects simultaneously and adjust priorities as necessary
  • Has the ability to understand our organization and its goals from the inside and out
  • Is a quick and enthusiastic learner
  • Is deadline-oriented and possesses great reporting skills
  • Has strong Japanese language ability
  • Has prior work experience in Japan or at a Japanese company
