Program Assistant
The Japan Center for International Exchange (JCIE/USA) is seeking a full-time program assistant to help implement various programs and support office administrators. A NY-based nonprofit organization, JCIE/USA strengthens US-Japan relations by conducting exchanges for political leaders, fostering dialogue between policymakers and researchers, and serving as a catalyst for bilateral cooperation on shared challenges such as global health, international development, and humanitarian assistance.
The job requires considerable flexibility and strong organizational skills. Responsibilities will include:
Program Support
- Assist with coordinating exchange programs, studies, and conferences related to international affairs, including making logistical arrangements and occasionally traveling with delegations
- On occasion, assist with background research on US-Japan relations and other topics relevant to JCIE programs
- Correspond with donors, participants, partner organizations, vendors, and other parties necessary for program management
- Help keep track of grant budgets
- Help write grant proposals, reports, and program-related communications
General Office Administration, Communications & IT/Website
- Handle incoming calls and help out with general office operations
- Assist with email newsletters (Mailchimp), website content writing, etc.
- Help to oversee and implement website updates (basic html coding skills a plus)
- Manage internal IT system (server, office network, etc.) and maintain office database systems
Preferred Candidate Attributes & Qualifications:
- Strong English-language writing and communications skills needed
- Detail-oriented, yet flexible, and curious to learn about US-Japan relations
- Team player who is willing to work in a small office environment with a can-do attitude
- Interest in the nonprofit sector, international affairs, and US-Asia relations
- Comfort handling IT-related issues is a plus, including working on websites, database management, and internal and web servers
- English fluency required, proficiency in Japanese a big plus
Compensation: Commensurate with experience, competitive in the nonprofit sector
