Established in 1907, New York’s Japan Society is an internationally recognized nonprofit, nonpolitical organization that provides access to information on Japan, offers opportunities to experience Japanese culture, and fosters sustained and open dialogue on issues important to the U. S., Japan, and East Asia.

The Corporate Development Officer provides administrative support for Corporate Giving, ensuring smooth operation of all aspects of Japan Society’s Corporate Membership and Sponsorship programs, as well as participating in fundraising activities in order to help the Development team meet Membership and Sponsorship goals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned.)

  • Manage daily membership operations, including the timely processing and tracking of Corporate Membership renewal letters, payments, gift acknowledgments and solicitation materials, with follow-up by phone or e-mail as necessary.
  • Field inquiries via Corporate Membership phone lines, email inboxes, providing member service/ troubleshooting as necessary while referring more complex inquiries to appropriate Japan Society staff.
  • Fulfill Corporate Member benefit obligations and requests, including updating complimentary mailing lists and producing and sending gallery passes.
  • Identify and research new prospect companies, track cultivation and stewardship of prospects in consultation with Corporate Giving team.
  • Attend meetings with representatives of current Corporate Members or prospects.
  • Upkeep of Corporate Membership promotional contents (website listing, information packets, and materials, benefit sheets).
  • Track the Corporate Giving team’s meetings with current and prospect companies.
  • Proofread and copyedit Corporate Giving correspondence and Corporate-related e-blasts and materials.
  • Maintain Corporate records in Raiser’s Edge database and member files, generating reports and lists as needed.
  • Prepare meeting material for corporate visits (profiles, mailing lists, employee event participation reports).
  • Support the Business & Policy Program and Special Events department as needed with preparation and execution of events, including Annual Dinner, Young Professional Network events, and other events.
  • Supervise Corporate Development interns, assigning various projects, including research, filing, data entry and other tasks.
  • Support other areas of Development as needed.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three to five years related non-profit or corporate experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be very detail-oriented, organized, flexible and a team player with the ability to multitask. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, and strong written, oral and intercultural communication skills are essential. Experience with database processing (preferably Raiser’s Edge—including the building of queries and custom reports, exports and merges) strongly preferred. Knowledge of Japanese culture a plus.
