The Halcyon Incubator, a program of S&R Foundation, is an immersive, residency-based fellowship for early stage social entrepreneurs.  Halcyon provides fellows with free housing, workspace, mentorship, and strategic partnerships and resources to grow their business. Committed to social impact, the incubator does not take equity in the ventures it supports.

Georgetown’s historic Fillmore School will be modernized to be a top quality place for artists from international backgrounds to pursue independent study while providing a hub of artistic learning for DC high school students.

Essential Responsibilities

Ensure the timely upkeep, maintenance and security of Halcyon House, a class A, historic mansion and attached town house, and Fillmore School.

Facility Related

  • Initiate and ensure the proper care and maintenance of Halcyon House, Fillmore School and fellows’ residences, and the grounds.  Identify, coordinate and resolve repairs and maintenance issues. Identify recurrent issues and make suggestions for remedying the issues.
  • Plan space allocations, layouts and facility modifications.
  • Organize and, as needed, supplement equipment and/or supplies at Halcyon House, residences where fellows and guests reside and Fillmore School and residences.
  • Ensure that accommodations are ready for fellows and guests.
  • Conduct daily and weekly inspections to ensure the facilities are secure, properly cleaned and maintained. 
  • Select vendors and contractors, oversee their work and ensure that the work is completed to acceptable standards. 
  • Recommend and monitor preventive maintenance programs.
  • Review and process invoices for payment.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date facility and construction related files and records.
  • Draft budgets and monitor approved budgets.
  • Recommend projects, equipment, policies and procedures that improve the functioning and operations of Halcyon House, Fillmore School and the residences.
  • Negotiate and review contracts.
  • Assist the Event Department in logistical set-ups for diverse events.
  • Provide support for the construction phase of The Fillmore School.

Fellow, Artist and Guest Related

  • Assist Halcyon and Fillmore program staff with logistical support for fellows and artists.
  • Work with Halcyon and Fillmore program staff to ensure that the rules and policies relating to the physical space are communicated to, and being followed by the fellows.
  • Oversee management and tracking of inventory.
  • Ensure the safety, security, and well-being of fellows, artists and the property.

Minimum Education Required: BA or BS degree or equivalent in work experience

Minimum Experience Required: Two years facility/construction/property management experience.

  • Solid knowledge of facility management and building systems
  • Ability to work with numbers, budgets, blueprints and space plans
  • Proven ability to communicate articulately, graciously, and persuasively
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and independently to achieve common objectives
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines
  • Comfortable interacting with a variety of stakeholders
  • Solid problem solving skills including identifying and recommending solutions
  • Ability to work with multiple priorities and deadlines and to pitch in where needed
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with others, good sense of humor
  • Thrive on working in a fast-paced, dynamic, start-up environment
  • Knowledge of general maintenance and ability to make minor repairs
  • Ability and willingness to perform physical activities, including climbing ladders and lifting at least 60 pounds
  • Competency in Microsoft office suite
