International Education Internship in the US and UK Harlaxton College, the British Campus of the University of Evansville, is pleased to announce a one year non-renewable position as an Intern in the United States followed by a one year non-renewable position of Assistant Director of Student development in the UK. This unique opportunity allows a promising young professional an opportunity to learn the US university system, international education in the US, and earn graduate credits towards a certificate in International Education Administration from a US University followed by one year’s work experience in the UK to apply these skills while working with US students who are studying abroad in the UK.

  • Year One (September- June): Year one of the program would be spent at the University of Evansville in Evansville, Indiana, USA (www.evansville.edu). The successful candidate would work within the Harlaxton Programs office to deliver orientations to US students planning to study in the UK, work on the administration involved with sending students abroad for the semester and the summer, and would work with travel planning for upcoming semesters in the UK. The position would offer six credit hours of US coursework each term.
  • Year Two (July- June of the following year): After successfully completing year one in the US, the candidate would move to year two in the UK working at Harlaxton College (www.harlaxton.ac.uk) as the Assistant Director of Student Development. This position supports the Director of Student Development and is vital in providing a robust travel, learning, and growth experience for the US students studying abroad at the College. Position responsibilities include organization and operation of student events, student orientation, college-sponsored travel, and crisis management at the Manor. This is a fast-paced student development position that would prepare a new professional for working in the international education or student development (student welfare) field.

Salary and Benefits:

  • Year One: The successful candidate would be sponsored on a J visa at the University of Evansville. Return Flight to the US, accommodation, a meal plan, and health insurance would be provided. Tuition would be waived for the courses taken while in the US, allowing the certificate to be earned at no cost to the intern. A modest stipend of $750 per month would be provided in addition to accommodation in a spacious on-campus house with kitchen facilities and free parking. The candidate would be responsible for securing the visa to the US, paying an applicable taxes in the US, and other incidentals.
  • Year Two: Upon return to the UK, the candidate would receive room and board at Harlaxton Manor, and a salary of £17,500 plus eligibility for a pension for the year of service. The assistant director lives in residence at Harlaxton.

Qualifications:

  • Completed Bachelor’s degree
  • Familiarity with the US university educational system
  • Travel and study experience outside of the UK
  • Travel, study or work experience in the United States is desirable
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit and prepare students for off-campus study in the UK
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced office serving all levels of university constituents
  • Some travel required in the US and while working in the UK
    • Please note that if you do not have permission to work in the UK, Harlaxton College will not be able to obtain a Certificate of Sponsorship for you to take up this position. All non EU/EEA candidates must have valid immigration status and/or a UK visa valid for the duration of the contract in order to be considered for this appointment.
