The Office of Global Services (OGS) facilitates global activity across the university by communicating applicable policies and providing support and advice across a range of domains. This includes: supporting non-credit bearing international initiatives, graduate level international initiatives, university-wide training on international initiatives development; immigration advising and cultural and educational programming for the international student and scholar community; overseeing the operations of  the Georgetown Villas in Fiesole, Italy and in Alanya, Turkey; reviewing international travel security; and expanding communications and partner relations.

The Senior Program Associate (SPA) coordinates the OGS website, develops and implements the communications and outreach plan for OGS; serves as a resource to graduate departments and schools seeking to develop international initiatives; and manages the International Visitors program.  

Responsibilities 

  • Communications, Outreach, and Global Services Liaison 
    • Assist in developing and implementing a communications strategy for the Office of Global Services, to include the development of print and electronic publications, the content and design of the Global Services webpage, and communications with other offices regarding Global Services’ programs and services.
    • Develop a communication strategy for resources and services available to the Georgetown community within the Office of Global Services, as well as resources and materials for Georgetown’s international partners, highlighting the University’s global initiatives and encourages new partnerships and collaborations. 
    • Develop and implement an outreach plan to include information sessions, panels, on-line resources for departments and schools interested in the guidance and support offered by the Office of Global Services.
    • Assess the effectiveness of communications, web, and publication initiatives in Global Services with an eye to the best practices in the field of international education on communications and web coordination.
  • New Global Initiatives Guidance and Support
    • Provide guidance for graduate departments and schools seeking to develop international initiatives, including joint and dual degrees, graduate research, service, and internships, and graduate study abroad and exchanges.
    • Guide departments through considerations for program design, including models for engagement, learning and academic integrity, budget and operations issues, university policies governing global activities, registration, billing and financial aid.
  • Visa Research and Guidance
    • Answer general email, phone, and walk-in inquiries re visas from students traveling on non-credit and graduate programs, and when assigned, provide same information for faculty, students, and administrators going overseas on other types of university-sponsored travel.
  • International Visitors Program and Delegations
    • Serve as the main point of contact for international visitors and delegations invited to Georgetown, helping to ensure that approved visitors are hosted appropriately. 
    • As needed, work with the Office of Communications on any press releases or other publications/communications regarding visitors and delegations.
    • Maintain the Global Services webpages, including design and content. 
    • Keep up-to-date on new and innovative uses of technology in the field and make recommendations on how such technology could be creatively implemented to improve outreach, programs and services in Global Services.

Requirements

  • Master’s required.
  • At least three years of experience working in a higher education environment – preference for experience in a study abroad office.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and use technology and the web for publications and outreach.
  • Broad knowledge of the issues and trends facing the international education field and an understanding of agreements and budgets.
  • Experience in, or a willingness to learn about, information and communications technologies.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.

Preferred Qualification: Understanding of website and publication design and maintenance, and writing for websites strongly preferred.
