The Washington-Ireland Program for Service and Leadership (WIP) is a twelve-month program of personal and professional development that brings outstanding university students from Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland to Washington, DC for summer work placements and leadership training. The program begins and ends with practical service in Northern Ireland and Ireland.

Each year, the Washington Ireland Program hires several positions to support the overall management of the program, as well as work closely with the students to encourage and facilitate their personal and professional development. These positions fall into two categories: Assistant Director and Management Team Leaders.

The Assistant Director will work closely with the Director of Leadership Programs in facets of curriculum, service activities, and administrative tasks in planning and executing the core DC program. This leadership position requires a significant amount of patience, flexibility, assertiveness, diplomacy, self-initiative, as well as experience working with students who have studied or lived abroad.

In addition, the Assistant Director’s responsibilities may include components of the following:

  • Curriculum Development/Implementation 
  • Programming/Event Management
  • Logistical Coordination/Scheduling
  • Service Learning
  • Staff Supervision and Development
  • Administrative Support

The Assistant Director and Director of Leadership Programs will also be joined by a small Management Team. The Management Team will be comprised of three WIP alumni who will oversee and mentor the students throughout the program. The Assistant Director will serve in a supervisory role to the Management Team, which will work remotely for the months of January through May and arrive in DC in late May/early June.
