> Position Duties & Responsibilities:
> 1. Recruitment: The Assistant Director is responsible for leading the recruitment effort for semester study abroad programs. Visits classes and hosts information tables, study abroad fairs, etc. to educate students on various study abroad options.
> 2. Study Abroad students: Works with pre-study abroad students through the Whittier College and third party provider program and outbound exchange application process. Provides detailed advice to students on programs, reviewing application materials and answering any questions the student may have. Serves as primary advisor on curricular and program options for academic year or semester programs. Oversees the enrollment forms of current study abroad students are received by the Registrar to ensure the student receives credit for courses taken while abroad. Works in conjunction with the Registrar, Business Office and Financial Aid to ensure the student does not have any holds on their account and can register for classes upon their return. Maintains day-to-day access to Study Abroad database (Poet World Portal).
> 3. Program Development and Maintenance: Suggests/develops new program relationships, maintains existing relationships with third-party program providers in consultation with the Director. Conducts site visits and reviews and updates agreements for semester programs and outbound exchange in consultation with the Director.
> 4. Liaison to Faculty Regarding International Programs: Works with faculty to promote international education. Works with faculty members who serve on the Study Abroad Committee to determine which students are accepted, waitlisted or denied for semester programs.
> 5. Global Poet Ambassador Program: Manage the Poet Global Ambassador Program for returned study abroad students and F-1 visa holders as a means to engage students in global citizen leadership development, volunteer service to the Office of International Programs and analysis of intercultural sensitivity development.
> 6. Management of Risk and Crises: In consultation with the Director of International Programs and/or the Senior International officer, is responsible for risk management oversight for semester programs, oversight of operations of crises management procedures for semester study abroad activities, answers questions regarding health and safety and financial arrangements of semester programs, and is available 24/7 by cell phone and email in case of emergencies or issues when students are abroad.
> 7. Budget Responsibilities: Manages annual semester study abroad budget approval and tracking of expenditures, monthly reconciliation
> 8. Outbound Exchange Students: Works with the College’s current exchange programs to maintain beneficial relationships between the schools. Works with senior administration and faculty to develop new and relevant relationships with other universities.
> 9. Liaison to other WC offices: Works throughout the year with various administrative offices to ensure clear communication and smooth process for all involved with semester study abroad and outbound exchanges.
> 10. Representation to various committees and off-campus groups: Actively participate in various international education associations, serves on advisory boards and is an active contributor to the professional field of international education.

General Statement of Duties:
This position reports to the IPO Director of Education Abroad and provides professional, administrative, and operational support, including, but not limited to managing all aspects of study abroad and exchange programs in the assigned geographical areas (initially France and Italy).  The position may involve supervising graduate interns, project assistants, and undergraduate employees, as well as developing programs with academic departments, faculty, and staff.

Job Description:
•       Management of Exchanges and Study-Abroad Programs: responsible for all facets of education abroad programs in the assigned geographical areas, initially France and Italy.  Duties include: negotiation and/or revision of exchange or 3rd party agreements; supervision and management of issues abroad and at home; site visits, as required; advise prospective students and oversee the selection process; review annual budgets and monitor exchange balances; work collaboratively with other professional staff to deliver pre-departure orientations and re-entry advising; monitor transfer of credit and financial aid problems, monitor health and safety issues in target regions and provide crisis management, as required.  Position requires constant communication with overseas partners, students, and families.
•       Manage UMass Amherst international programs from the target departments assigned (initially French & Italian), including faculty outreach, program publicity, budget development, database and record maintenance; assist target departments with student advisement and recruitment.
•       Program Development: work with departments, faculty, and administrators to develop new study abroad programs, including need assessments, program structure, curriculum, budgets, application procedures, student services, etc.
•       Coordinate visits to UMass from partner institutions’ administrators and faculty; support general advising of prospective students as required.  Collaborate with other professional staff in the unit to support strategic goals such as curriculum integration; diversity; STEM initiatives; outcomes assessment; developing global learning curricula, etc.; contribute to staff working groups.

Required Qualifications:
•       Bachelor’s degree in International Studies, Counseling, Higher Education Administration, or related field with 3 years of experience working in International Higher Education
•       Proficiency in French
•       Experience living, studying, or working outside the United States; familiarity with study abroad programs in the U.S. and Europe; familiarity with higher education systems and international education in the U.S. And Europe
•       Willingness to travel internationally 1-2 times per year; domestically 1-2 times per year
•       Willingness to work evenings and weekends as required
•       Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal communications
•       Experience in program development, budget planning and management, and marketing
•       Familiarity with computer functions: word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, internet

Preferred Qualifications:
•       Master’s degree in International Studies, Counseling, Higher Education Administration, or related field
•       Previous international experience with STEM or diversity abroad
•       Ability to read in Italian

General Statement of Duties:
The Communications & Digital Media Specialist is responsible for designing and stewarding the Education Abroad unit’s public relations and messaging on a variety of electronic platforms including web channels/tools and social media.  S/he is primarily responsible for organizing major public events for the Education Abroad unit and will be required to work closely with relevant staff in the Education Abroad unit and the International Programs Office more generally. The position reports to the Director of Education Abroad.

Job Description:
•       Develop and maintain dynamic content/design for the Education Abroad, IPO, and ISSS websites including multimedia content.  Develop a dynamic and impactful branding and messaging strategy for Education Abroad social media; manage this strategy across a variety of platforms.
•       Partner with Study Abroad staff to develop and publish web/social media content on a daily or weekly basis. Liaise with UMass Amherst offices like University Relations, Communications, etc. to promote Education Abroad, IPO, ISSS, and related content to UMass websites and social media platforms.  Analyze data and generate reports on website activity using web analytic programs.
•       Organize periodic Education Abroad events like the Education Abroad Fair (annually), Photo & Video Contests (each semester)
•       Take a lead role in devising Education Abroad publicity materials and publications (e.g., event posters, brochures, regional & curricular advising sheets, etc.) and in developing annual relational and promotional materials for IPO (annual report, annual greetings, IPO calendar, etc.)
•       Coordinate Education Abroad outreach events; interface with campus entities such as New Student Orientation to ensure Education Abroad representation; supervise student interns and partner peers/ambassadors. Assist other professional staff with pre-departure and re-entry conferences (every semester)

Required Qualifications:
•       Bachelor’s degree in PR, Communications, Digital Media, or related field
•       2 years of experience in web development, digital communications, or other relevant work experience
•       Experience with HTML, CSS, CMS like Drupal, WordPress
•       Demonstrated experience using Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, and other social media tools in a professional setting and a strong grasp of best practices associated with using these tools
•       Excellent written, organizational, communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills
•       Strong attention to detail and ability to exercise good judgment
•       Demonstrated ability to work independently and with a team of technical and non-technical staff
