Position:  Full-Time Native Speaker English Teacher

Location: Ebetsu City, Hokkaido, Japan
Contract Term: April 1st 2016 – March 31st 2017 (This contract may be renewed, through mutual agreement between the individual and employer.)

Overview: Dating back as far as 1869, Ritsumeikan was not established to solely educate but empower youth to become world leaders in order that they might make a better future for our country and ultimately the world. Though it has been more than 130 years since our establishment, we have relentlessly embraced the motto, “Freedom and Innovation” This has been transcended from generation to generation. 

Duties: The Employee shall perform the following duties under the direction of the Principal.

  1. Teaching of a foreign language (Subject: English)
  2. Work related to class management
  3. Miscellaneous school affairs on weekends
  4. Attendance at meetings related to the assigned subjects or miscellaneous school affairs
  5. Development of teaching materials and tests
  6. Assistance of students in extracurricular activities
  7. Assistance in preparation and review of various documents
  8. Assistance in activities related to international exchange
  9. Work related to entrance examinations
  10. Work related to school events
  11. Other duties assigned in order to achieve the goal of enhancing the employers primary and secondary education
  12. The assigned number of classes indicated in the preceding paragraph shall be on average sixteen (16) per week (one [1] class shall be fifty [50] minutes).

Working hours: 8:25-16:25 on weekdays and 8:25-12:25 on Saturdays (It is common for teachers to be at school until 18:00 or 19:00 to take care of extra-curricular activities or other duties.)

Holidays: National Holidays, Obon, New Years and Autumn Break (There is a possibility of there being extra-curricular activities or school events on these days)

Vacation: 10 days paid leave (to be taken on days that don’t interfere with your classes, extra-curricular activities or school events.) In addition to vacation days, you shall be given one day off every second week on a designated day of the week. This day will be determined in April.

Social Insurance (Deducted from Monthly Salary): The Employee shall participate in the Private School Personal Mutual Aid of the Promotion and Mutual Aid Corporation for Private Schools of Japan.

Employment Insurance (Deducted from Monthly Salary): The Employee shall be eligible for Employment Insurance

Workers’ Compensation Insurance (Deducted from Monthly Salary) : The Employee shall be eligible for Workers’ Compensation Insurance.

Basic Annual Salary: As written below, there are 3 types of contracts available to English teachers.

  Full Time Native Speaker English Teacher Full Time Teacher A (more than 3 years of classroom teaching experience) Full Time Teacher B (less than 3 years  of classroom teaching experience)
