Overview: 

The Center for Global Education and Experience (CGEE) at Augsburg College seeks applicants for the position of CGEE Site Director, Southern Africa, based at our center in Windhoek, Namibia. The Center’s mission is to provide cross-cultural education opportunities that develop critical thinking skills for analyzing local and global conditions so that personal and systemic change takes place leading to a more just and sustainable world.  The Center offers an undergraduate semester program that develops the theme, “Nation Building, Globalization and Decolonizing the Mind.”  Several short-term travel seminars are also coordinated every year.  Programs draw students from colleges and universities throughout the US. 

The Site Director will provide overall leadership and oversee daily operational aspects for the CGEE Southern Africa Site, based in Namibia, with programming in South Africa.  Duties include: staff supervision, budget management, program assessment and development, compliance with Augsburg and Namibian regulations/laws/policies, teach semester courses, and lead customized programming as needed.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership in making site based decisions regarding budget, personnel, policies, schedules and strategic planning.
  • Supervise on site-staff.
  • In conjunction with the College and other entities, deepen short and long-term academic program offerings, spanning both liberal education as well as professional programs.
  • Sit on the CGEE Leadership Council, including strategic planning for both CGEE Southern Africa as well as Augsburg College globally.
  • Teach a political science and/or history course each semester and complete other tasks related to teaching in an off-campus, experiential program, including developing syllabi, grading, submitting evaluations and course instructor reports.
  • Design and lead students on one or more travel components throughout the semester in Namibia and/or South Africa.

Required Experience:

  • Advanced education equivalent to a master’s degree.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a diverse work environment.
  • Ability to be attentive to details, be accurate, be precise.
  • Ability to lead/teach; work in a team environment; and work independently with little or no supervision.
  • Ability to reason/analyze; maintain confidentiality; and demonstrate patience, understanding.
  • Ability to show initiative; multi-task and organize workflow; manage one or more multiple projects; and handle frequent interruptions.
