The University of Kentucky’s International Center  is seeking to fill a newly revised position for our growing office: Education Abroad Advisor & Ongoing Orientation Coordinator. In addition to providing discipline-specific education abroad advising, this individual will coordinate UK’s innovative, blended-learning orientation program. This would be an ideal position for someone with knowledge of college student learning and development.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Education Abroad Advisor (Student Affairs Officer II) supports and advises students through all phases of the education abroad process, including promotion and outreach, advising and program selection, on-going orientation, credit transfer, etc. The advisor will become an expert on a wide range of educational opportunities available to UK students within our strategic portfolio of programs and must know the details of the programs, including application procedures and deadlines. The successful candidate will be knowledgeable about other countries, including systems of higher education, culture, health and safety issues. The EA Advisor must commit to discipline-specific advising and liaise with key faculty and relevant offices such as Admissions, Registrar, Financial Aid, Career Center, Undergraduate Research and college advising units.

Each EA Advisor specializes in one strategically important goal of the office, and this position will oversee UK’s innovative ongoing orientation programming, as a requirement of ISP599. This includes pre-departure orientation, while abroad phase, and re-entry sessions. Other responsibilities include data collection/reporting, program development and active participation in professional organizations.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITY:
Successful candidates will have international education experience, proven management skills, experience working with faculty, familiarity with budgets and financial management, education abroad/student advising experience, familiarity with intercultural development and student learning, and successful promotion and outreach experience. Candidates must have excellent communication and presentation skills, attention to detail, time management skills, and a high degree of professionalism. Desirable qualities include experience developing and facilitating pre-departure and re-entry orientation programming, skills in outcomes assessment related to education abroad, familiarity with non-European countries and cultures, proficiency in languages other than English, knowledge of Studio Abroad software.

REQUIRED EDUCATION EXPERIENCE:
Master’s degree and one year experience (or equivalency) is required. Experience in education abroad, orientation programming, advising/counseling, and/or international services is preferred.
