Position: Convention Manager
Location:
NYC
Salary: $20/hr

Overview:

Attract MICE from North America by promoting Japan as a MICE destination. (MICE stands for meetings, incentives, conferences/conventions, and exhibitions.) The position starts with the three-month probation period. The candidate’s skills and ability will be determined during this time. The employment to the full-time position will be decided upon the end of the probation period.

1. Marketing

– Update our MICE contact database through research and communications.
– Research and stay up to date on industry trends from networking, industry magazines and educational sessions.
– Propose an annual marketing/budget plan to the headquarters (events, advertisements, etc.)
– Edit and deliver the MICE newsletter (6 times a year)
. Sales
– Attend MICE related events such as one-to-one meetings, networking/educational sessions, and tradeshows to generate leads and follow up them.
– Make sales calls to associations, meeting planners and other key persons/organizations located in the North America to generate leads and follow up them.
– Respond to inquiries and provide information.
– Prepare for inspection trip(s), accompany the trip participants to Japan and follow up them after the trip.

3. Support to our partners
– Support suppliers by acting as a bridge between our partners (convention cities and bureaus, venues, hotels, etc) and meeting planners, and through consulting and lobbying.

4. Reporting
– Write a monthly report including activities, results and MICE trends to the headquarters and Executive Director. (The deadline is 10th of every month.)

5. Others
– Take business trips in North America and to Japan when needed.
– Conduct MICE related activities/research when directed by the headquarters and Executive Director.
– Proofread and revise English materials for the office (if you are a native English speaker).

Requirements:

  • Business English fluency (required)
  • Experience in sales and marketing (required)
  • General knowledge of Japan’s geography and culture (required)
  • Skill for multi-tasking, negotiation, and time management (required)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (required)
  • Core IT skills; proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point comfortable with current online tools and social media (required)
  • Japanese fluency (preferable)
  • Experience in MICE and/or hospitality industry or tourism office (preferable)
  • Creativity (preferable)
  • Filemaker Skill (preferable)

Interviews will take place soon after this deadline, we will select the interviewers and the Interviews will include an applicant presentation (How to attract the international conference in Japan for 5 minutes, in any format) and a test on knowledge of Japan.
