PositionProgram Manager, Operations
Location: Tokyo, Japan
Application deadline: Immediate. Seeking to fill position in February 2014. Three-month trial period.
Company Welfare: Full transportation expenses; social insurance covered; other welfare as per GHIT Fund rules. Fund will consider covering relocation costs for applicants not already based in Tokyo.

Overview:

The Global Health Innovative Technology Fund (GHIT Fund) is an international non-profit grantmaking foundation that aims to advance the development of new health technologies such as drugs, vaccines and diagnostics, for the developing world. Primary grantees include product development partnerships (PDPs). A new Japanese-led initiative, the GHIT Fund drives global health research & development to create new, innovative tools for improving health and saving lives.

The Program Manager will work directly with the Director of Operations. Key duties include:

  • Financial planning and analysis
  • Accounting work (billing, expenses, payments, bank-related)
  • Liaising with accounting service vendors
  • Storing and managing original contract and billing documents
  • Support for account book creation and GHIT Fund account settlements
  • Auditing support
  • Human resources and labor work (including from recruitment to employment and support thereafter)
  • Legal affairs (drafting contracts and related liaisons)
  • Drafting materials in both English and Japanese
  • Handling operations-related email/phone calls, filing

*Being able to read and write in both Japanese and English is required

Requirements:

  • English communicative competence (document drafting, conversation)
  • Ability to quickly and proactively assume responsibility for managing projects
  • Self-starter, able to work independently while remaining an actively engaged team member.
  • Preferred but not required:
  • Several years of experience in accounting affairs (account settlement experience a plus)
  • Several years of experience in operational and legal affairs
  • For Japanese applicants: experience working/studying abroad a plus
  • For non-Japanese applicants: experience working/studying in Japan a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • Microsoft Office Proficiency:
  • o PowerPoint: Ability to create presentations from scratch
  • o Excel: Data processing ability, including functions, statistics, and extraction level
  • For non-native English speakers: TOEFL iBT score of 750 or above, or equivalent
  • For non-Japanese applicants: comfort reading, writing, and conversing substantively in Japanese

  • Liaising with domestic and foreign decision-makers
  • Qualitative and quantitative analysis of proposals
  • Project management of strategy-related work (e.g., portfolio strategy)
  • Assisting Director of Strategy on the Fund’s subsidy projects
  • Drafting contracts with key public and private partners
  • Drafting materials in both English and Japanese
  • Handling operations-related email/phone calls, filing

*Being able to read and write in both Japanese and English is required

Requirements:

  • English communicative competence (document drafting, conversation)
  • Ability to quickly and proactively assume responsibility for managing projects
  • Self-starter, able to work independently while remaining an actively engaged team member.
  • Several years of working experience, particularly in a strategic role, a plus
  • Familiarity with/interest in public health, life science research, and/or medical fields preferred
  • For Japanese applicants: experience working/studying abroad a plus
  • For non-Japanese applicants: experience working/studying in Japan a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • Ability to create presentations (PPT) from scratch
  • Excel data processing ability, including functions, statistics, and extraction level
  • For non-native English speakers: TOEFL iBT score of 100 or above, or equivalent
  • For non-Japanese applicants: comfort reading, writing, and conversing substantively in Japanese
