Overview:

The Rockefeller Foundation’s New Media Director will plan and implement a new media strategy that positions Rockefeller as a social media innovator and enhances the Foundation’s global communications positioning and messaging. This position reports to the Vice President of Global Communications.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Planning and implementing a new media strategy that positions Rockefeller as a social media innovator and enhances the Foundation’s global communications positioning and messaging
  • Working with the Managing Director of Knowledge Management to develop web-based platforms for sharing knowledge
  • Supporting RF staff to more effectively use social media
  • Working with Communications Office colleagues to suggest ideas for adding social media components to announcements and events
  • Working closely with the Centennial team to ensure best use of social media in Centennial activities
  • Developing and ensuring consistent content of a high standard for RF blog
  • Developing additional social media tools with a particular focus on mediums that solicit and share ideas
  • Managing and further developing the website, soliciting and supervising contractors as needed
  • Managing Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and other social media platforms as needed and develops a strategy that identifies the best use for each platform
  • Developing use of social media for internal communications

  • Articulate the social media vision, lead and design the plan of action, and drive the implementation of a comprehensive strategic plan which supports the goals of the organization
  • Evaluate opportunities and challenges as they arise, maintaining a clear vision, yet showing the flexibility to alter the social media communications plan where circumstances/timing warrant change, and to incorporate this perspective into the Rockefeller Foundation’s communications strategy
  • Execution: Strong project management skills, deadline management, sense of responsibility and accountability and the ability to effectively multi-task
  • Project Management: Strong project management and implementation skills to deliver objectives. Ability to manage contractors to ensure timely, high-quality work product
  • Decision-Making: Ability to evaluate risks and opportunities, using analytical and strong problem-solving skills
  • Technical Knowledge: Experience using web analytical software to measure website and social media traffic, knowledge of social enterprise platforms, knowledge of HTML5, content management systems, and web design software, understanding of organic search engine optimization to increase a website’s visibility among search engines, experience using digital dashboards to manage social media accounts, experience using various blogging, wiki, and web publishing platforms
  • Knowledge of global social networking sites and global social media trends
  • Skilled in creating excitement around an organization and its services
  • Partnership and Relationship-Building: Strong professional representation of the Foundation, interpersonal relationship abilities, intercultural knowledge and appreciation, strategic partnership building
  • Integration: Ability to demonstrate inclusiveness, collaboration, respect and broad organizational interests

CRITERIA FOR SUCCESS

Successful applicants will demonstrate:

Education, Training and Experience

  • Undergraduate degree required; Masters degree preferred but not required. Study in media, communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, business, and/or computer science preferred but not required.
  • The Rockefeller Foundation is seeking a highly accomplished new media director with a proven track record of planning and implementing a new media strategy that positions Rockefeller as a social media innovator and enhances the Foundation’s global communications positioning and messaging.
  • The successful candidate will have at least 7-10 years experience across classical communications with a solid understanding of, and demonstrable, strategic and practical implementation of significant social media campaigns through Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, blogs, web sites, and/or mobile devices and tablets.
  • The individual must be a professional who can strike a balance working to enhance the Rockefeller Foundation brand while optimizing the social media communications strategies of the organization.
  • Nonprofit or Foundation experience preferred but not necessary.
