Job Position: JET Programme Consultant (DC)

Job Details:

The JET Program Consultant is responsible for the general management of the JET Program under the supervision of the Education Counselor and the JET Program Coordinator. 

The duties of the position include:

  • Organizing and coordinating the JET Program application review process, interviews, orientations, recruiting/advertising, etc.
  • Planning and facilitating JET Program events and orientations
  • Responding to inquiries for information about the program by telephone, e-mail, and letter, as needed
  • Working with the JET Alumni Association on various projects to introduce Japan/Japanese culture in the DC area and to promote networking among former JET participants and Japan related communities.
  • Other projects as assigned by the Education Counselor
  • Required Qualifications:        

  • U.S. citizenship or green card
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Strong English language speaking and writing skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and people skills
  • Strong computer skills–Internet, e-mail, MS Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Desired Qualifications:

  • Japanese language ability (2-kyu, Business level or higher)
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with the JET Programme
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with working for international exchange programs
  • Interest in pursuing a future career in US-Japan relations, specifically in the education and/or cultural fields
  • Location:
    Embassy of Japan, 2520 Massachusetts Avenue, NW. 

    About the JET Program and the JET Program Office:
    The JET Program seeks to help enhance internationalization in Japan by promoting mutual understanding between Japan and other nations. The program aims to enhance foreign language education in Japan, and to promote international exchange at the local level through fostering ties between Japanese youth and foreign youth. The JET Program Office at the Embassy of Japan is responsible for selecting applicants who will interview for the Program in the US as well as interviewing and training participants from the Washington, DC area.
