There are other foreigners living in the area, but many people you socialize with will be Japanese and communication can be a struggle at the start. Applicant should have a genuine enjoyment of teaching and a positive attitude. Applicant does not need to know Japanese but it would be extremely beneficial to learn it. The applicant hopefully has an international driver’s license but it is not essential, as they will need to travel to kindergarten classes (5 minutes drive). Applicant does not need to wear a suit everyday to work. However a suit will be needed for formal occasions. It is expected however that the applicant dress tidily. Smart looking cotton trousers, khakis or jeans and nice shirts are acceptable; torn, faded, shabby clothing is obviously not acceptable. Applicant must have a hospitable attitude. In the countryside many students come not just to learn English, but to get the chance to spend some time with a foreigner and to learn about their culture. Applicant will be expected to follow a general syllabus of the school; however, other activities and games are up to the teacher’s own creativity as long as they are appropriate. This is an excellent chance for someone who does not fit the mould of strict syllabi in chain English schools- a great place for a creative and flexible person.
