Program Coordinator

Description:
The Japan Information and Culture Department of the Consulate General of Japan in Miami has an opening for a program coordinator. This is a full-time contract position. The ideal candidate will be fast-paced, results oriented, creative and flexible. Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills in team planning, public speaking and presenting are required.

Duties: (include but are not limited to)

  • Administer all aspects of the JET Program, including recruiting, volunteer coordinating, travel planning, networking, interviewing, candidate processing, orientation presenting and any other JET oriented activities.
  • Manage JET Alumni database and communicate with JETAA officers regularly. Other duties include networking with JETAA, planning and hosting events aimed at supporting or honoring JETAA and processing JETAA event budget requests to the Consulate.
  • Administer all aspects of the Monbukagakusho Scholarship program including recruiting, scheduling, interviewing, candidate processing and all other inquiries
  • Visit primary schools, secondary schools, post-secondary schools and other organizations to present on Japanese culture in a manner relevant to the audience. This includes leading activities, providing educational information, etc…
  • Plan and execute cultural events in the community
  • Take photos at consular events for reports and uploading to thewebsite
  • Updating the consulate’s English website
  • Speech editing and writing
  • Drafting and sending press releases
  • Answering inquiries about study abroad, work abroad and travel opportunities in Japan and distributing Japan promotion materials
  • Research and report on a number of Japan related educational and cultural items in Florida
  • Work evening receptions and events outside of regular business hours
  • Coordinate and assist the Public Relations Liaison with any team projects, events, mass distributions and other duties
  • Any other duties requested of you

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Conversational Japanese language skills (equivalent to JLPT level 3 and up)
  • Extensive knowledge about Japan and Japanese culture
  • Able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and overnight trips
  • Have a valid Florida Drivers license
  • Photography and basic image editing skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills
  • Excellent presentation and public speaking abilities
  • Professional appearance and demeanor
  • Self-directed and able to complete all responsibilities with little to no direction
  • Native English speaking with US or Japanese citizenship

Preferred qualifications: (same as minimum plus…)

  • JET Program Alumni or experience living or traveling in Japan
  • Advanced Japanese language skills (equivalent to JLPT level 2 and up)
  • Experienced at using SLR cameras and computer image design software such as Photoshop
  • Experienced with Dreamweaver software and online website design and uploading
  • Experienced at presenting to all ages from children to seniors
  • Good driving history with no DUI
  • Familiar with Japanese office culture
